A Special Pinot Noir…Celebrating 30 Years
There’s something about a new decade that makes me smile (yes, it took me a while, as some of you know!). I’m there now…grinning at the new decade with fervor and empowered energy.
So that calls for celebration, eh?
And, this obviously calls for a nice dinner at a French place Ry has been wanting to take me for some time…Cochon. http://cochonbyob.com/, in the city. This lovely BYOB featuring quaint, local, simplicity, and declious, hand-crafted foods was just the trick. Knowing that Cochon (meaning “pig!” in French) has excellent pork (and other!) entrees, I took a very special pinot noir that we carried home from New Zealand’s Central Otago (Gibbston) Valley. What a treat. Pinot continues to be one of my favorite red varietals, and this one was a total pleaser! Waitiri Creek’s 2007 Drummer Pinot Noir was as lovely as the day I tasted it overlooking the surrounding Queenstown landscape in May 2010. It was like a dream. Cherries, smooth tannins, floral essences…yet spicy a bit!; silky and unforgettable. It paired well with diverse foods like escargots, goose livers and cherries, braised pork, and duck breast.
