The End of One Intense Week. The Beginning of Another.

I would say that the past week has been lovely in many ways. Furthermore, it was filled with truly exquisite culinary adventures. We have certainly had our proper fill of indulgence!

With a quick shifting-of-gears, I've ramped back up into another type of intensity. Hello MBA Term 3.

Fortunately, I've done my fair share of writing this past week, and have some more blogs ready to roll out. So, armed with an intense desire to achieve some kind of improved form of balance, I will do my best to continue moderate blogging throughout!

Wish me luck! Bonne chance!

Gilmores and Loire Rouge...

Well, Gilmore's was quite possibly the best restaurant experience I've had in the past year...maybe longer. (!)

Amazing. Proper everything. I can't even really verbalize the actual perfection of the evening. Every aspect was delightful, acute excellence. The purest butter with the freshest bread, the most succulent and tender escargots, the richest foie gras (which, after the first taste, Ryan perhaps-not-so-jokingly inquired to the waiter about reordering for dessert!!!), hearty slow-braised lamb shank with bacon-braised kale and cannellini beans, medium-rare steak with green peppercorn sauce, and, upon a unanimously staff-recommendation- rounded out with the best rum raisin bread pudding...made of croissants soaked in a cinnamon-rum cream with raisins, baked and topped with Tahitian vanilla ice cream and caramel-rum sauce. We subsequently enjoyed quality cafe au lait.

Of course, we BYOB'd the highly anticipated Cab Franc from Amboise, the heart of the Loire Valley, to accompany the meal. I still cannot come up with a better match. It not only satisfied, it EXCEEDED my expectations on every level...with every course.

I think, too, that it was the perfect time to open this properly-aged 2005 Cuvee de Monce Touraine-Amboise.....rich and spicy, black fruits (not quite cooked, but over-ripe)....a-m-a-z-i-n-g with gamey dishes (like the lamb dish) and equally excellent with the foie gras appetizer, full-bodied. Not trying to be too bold or too big...just being real. THIS is why I adore French wines.

After a brief sojourn back to the chateau in Amboise, where I first tasted this precise Loire red, my first of many, I rejoined my handsome dining companion, and enjoyed every precious minute of that unforgettable, pleasurable evening- a French escape-from-reality, just 20 minutes from home.

Getting Taken to Gilmore's Tonight...!

AAAAHHH! We are going to Gilmore's for dinner! This is quite possibly THE BEST French restaurant around...AND a BYOB! Yaaaaaaaay!

I'm going to take a very special bottle along that I carried back from France in October. It's a Cabernet France blend from Amboise. I am so excited!

Yes, I do love foie gras and escargots! And yes, the foie gras at Gilmores is from humanely-raised duckies. YAY.

Will report back on quality of wine and food. Hope high expectations are exceeded. :)

A Wonderful Day...

What a wonderful day...despite and in parallel to my occupational daily drama, life is good. Sun and warmth help...don't you agree?

Time with hubby, writing cards to elderly folk, and fine Shiraz (Aussie, I adore!)...I am uplifted! OK, as usual, perhaps overly dramatic...but you love it!

Poured a glass of
R Wines 2007 "First Class" Shiraz. (What is with this cheesy name and label!?! Eeek!) BUT- this Shiraz is serious business! Rich texture. Dark berries. Licorice. Yum. Going to pick up a few more bottles before they are MIA. Suggest you do the same.

(Current retail price: $30; It's amazing, but the current sales price in PA: $9.99. Otherwise, you won't find this wine for less than 25 bucks anywhere! A great value for the product.)

I know it's Cliche, but...

"Celebrate the small stuff!"

I survived term 2...and did so gracefully and devoutly (lol...I know, drama). This week, I have already begun basking in every glorious moment of this week. Free.

Similarly to the finish of term 1, I have a laundry list of over-achiever style goals to accomplish. I have never been so aware and appreciative of time and peace. While I won't hash out each and every goal this time around (unless you want me to...may help hold me accountable!), I will say that WINE and BLOGGING are on that list.

I fully intend to blog this week (Hence, I turned in my accounting case study final and directly opened my blog!). Similarly, wine. Mmmm. Will drink some, and blog accordingly. As luck would have it, I have some bottles I am excited to open, including another trial run of Rappel. YAY! Drop me an email or call if you want to come by and share some Pinot Noir...or Cab...or Shiraz...

:)

P.S. Happy Birthday to my bestest friend in the world. xo, MM!

A Great Merlot Can Stop you Mid-Sentence...

So I am writing an Organizational Behavior term paper...due, with a myriad of other assignments, to close out Term 2 of the MBA this week! I've been relatively productive, and thought I would unwind with a glass of vino. Bonne!

I chose a recently-purchased, excellent value Merlot (blend), currently a Chairman's Selection in PA. Well, it is so delightful that I stopped mid-sentence in OB paper to pop over here and drop y'all a line (yes, perhaps I have been "hanging out" with my Texan MBA team member too much on Skype!).

Veramonte (sorry, no time to take a pic now) 2008 Merlot is a Chilean masterpiece for <$10! I am actually thinking of picking up some more tomorrow, if possible, to share (especially with those of you with valuable accounting knowledge...email me!!) :)

Intense berries, smooth as velvet; black pepperiness up front when I first was tasting it, and upon being opened a while...it is SO SUBDUED it's amazing me...and I'm getting more of a green-pepperiness scent now...though it's mellow! I am impressed with this New World red (can you tell???) Am seriously contemplating spending some time planning a South American adventure next week over school break!

GO GET SOME!

Getting Reacquainted...

Oh darling blog, how I've missed you. Over a month has gone by! Obviously you were properly warned that I would be neglectful, but I don't get over it.

Surprisingly, I'm almost finished with term 2 of the MBA. (!)

It's almost awkward to write again. I will get over it. :)

I tried the Rappel again...in mid-Feb. It's amazing to observe the changes, over time.

Bottom line...there is still room for improvement; I KNOW it will get better. Still a bit young- young fruits, medium bod, red fruits...very much anticipating another month of age.

Planning to open another bottle over break, and excited to report back with another update next week!!!
